Geelong purring as the Cats prowl menacingly

MARK Thompson doesn't give away a lot, but when the Geelong coach does pipe up, it's usually pertinent and straight to the point.
Which was certainly the case earlier this week when the dual premiership coach was asked about the state of his side as it headed into its fourth successive finals series. ''We're in great shape. We're more experienced,'' Thompson said. ''We're getting smarter and doing things better every year, on the field, plus off the field. We're probably in the best shape we've been in any time over the last four years at this stage.''

Now for the Saints: Kelly

GEELONG star James Kelly says the Cats are confident they can overcome St Kilda in next weekend’s qualifying final despite their less than impressive showing against West Coast at Skilled Stadium on Saturday.

Earlier in the season St Kilda beat Geelong by 24 points, but Kelly is confident the Cats will be at their best in September.

“It’s our first final and we want to win,” Kelly said.

Geelong Cats vow to play best available against West Coast

Geelong coach Mark Thompson said the Cats would field their strongest possible side against the Eagles, with four players set to return from injury and illness.

Skipper Cameron Ling, Andrew Mackie, Brad Ottens and Tom Lonergan are in line to play with Thompson insisting the Cats would not rest any players as they attempt to build ominous form ahead of finals.
