Hawthorn vs Geelong Cats – Alternate Perth Cats’ venue

Cats V Hawks

Hi Cats Fans,

After another very long off season punctuated by Asian Cups and World Cups in other sports, it’s finally time to cheer on The Mighty Cats for another season. While we’ve lost some pace and experience with the erratic Travis Varcoe to Collingwood and ‘Bundy’ Christensen moving up to the Lions, we’ve also drafted some real talent like Nakia Cockatoo who looks like he’ll be more than worthy of the #5 jumper. We’ve also taken a punt on big Mitch Clarke who looked impressive in the pre-season, forming a formidable partnership with the Tomahawk that should bring us a lot of goals. Hopefully the rest of our list is a great mix of experience and developing talent that will have us challenging for the Top Four again this season!

Our home base again this year will be OP’s Tavern in Osborne Park for Friday and Saturday games. We’ve been there since Grand Final Day 2011 and they have always been accommodating to us and will be doing so again this season. Unfortunately they will not be opening on Sundays (and Easter Monday) this season for reasons outside of our control.  Because of this we have had to find a base for those 5 games and have settled on The Odin Tavern in Balcatta. While we had two options and the feedback we received was to move to the Game Sports Bar in Northbridge, they could not provide what we wanted; our own area and somewhere family friendly. The Odin can do this and have a great set up which is also used by the Carlton and Richmond supporters’ clubs. There is a big sports bar area next door with TAB facilities and they also do a great roast special on a Sunday. This venue change is only for a handful of games this season so hopefully it’ll work out and we’ll be able to stick with the one venue next season. Some photos of the venue can be seen here.

So this all means our first game of the season against the dreaded enemy Hawks will be at The Odin Tavern this Easter Monday at 1.20pm (Perth/WA time) and once again it promises to be a cracker. Our room will be located in the restaurant area with entry from the car park.

This season we’ll again be doing a raffle for a framed shirt signed by the 2015 team – so look out for details on that. We’ll also again be holding a pre-game function at OP’s for the Eagles game on Sunday, May 31. We will have tickets to the game but we don’t know the details of this yet as the club are still sorting this out. Plus the club will be holding an open day for fans the day before the game against the Eagles on Saturday May 30. More details as they come to hand. Don’t forget we also do Geelong Cats vehicle license plates, so if you’re thinking of getting one for yourself or someone else as a gift, then checkout the website for more details.

If there’s any queries then don’t hesitate in contact the committee and … GO CATS!
