From the Geelong Advertiser earlier today:
GEELONG premiership ruckman Brad Ottens has escaped serious injuries after a water skiing accident in Echuca.
Ottens suffered cuts to his right hand, arm and leg after he accidentally made contact with the propeller of a boat he was skiing behind in Echuca on Tuesday. Ottens and his fiancé Sarah Wynn were holidaying in the Murray River town at the time of the accident.
The Cats' general manager of football operations Neil Balme said Ottens will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks. ``Brad has been extremely lucky considering the circumstances of the injury," Balme said. ``The injury to his elbow and leg required stitches but will heal relatively quickly. ``Brad is lucky that the cuts to his hand did not result in more serious injuries that would have sidelined him for a significantly longer period. ``He suffered two cut extensor tendons in his right hand, and he has undergone surgery to repair the tendons. All the medical reports have him healed and resuming training in a month to six weeks.''
Ottens was initially treated in Echuca before returning to Geelong where he underwent surgery yesterday. He was discharged today.
